About Travis Collins
With a background rich in culture and diversity from his missionary years in Africa, Travis brings a strong passion for ministry and growth to Bon Air Baptist. As Senior Pastor since June 2002, he has promoted both community and personal growth through his leadership, sermons, and interactions. Travis has developed a strong enthusiasm for reaching and truly changing lives, and sees Spiritual Podcasts as one of an endless supply of tools available to Bon Air Baptist.
| "My passion is transformed lives. I don't want to spend the rest of my life helping our church merely maintain our organizational strength. I want, both for our church and for my own life, to be used by God in bringing about real and eternal life transformations." – Travis |
When Travis takes a step away from his leadership role at Bon Air, you will find him on the sidelines of a local football game as referee. Football officiating is such a source of enjoyment for Travis that it largely inspired his forthcoming book, Tough Calls: Game-Winning Principles for Leaders Under Pressure, due out in August 2008.
Dr. Collins resides in Midlothian, Virginia with his wife Keri and their three children – Landon, Brennan, and Grant.
About Bon Air Baptist Church
Bon Air Baptist Church is located in historic Bon Air, just outside of Richmond, VA. Since 1953, Bon Air Baptist’s mission has been to proclaim the grace of God and grow followers of Christ. With a multi-site focus, the church has expanded its ministries beyond a single location and seeks to increase the diversity among its members and leadership.
Currently, the congregation consists of about 2,500 members, with approximately 1,800 people attending worship at one of eight services each weekend. Services are held at the Buford Road Campus, the NorthStar Community at Bon Air Elementary School, and the James River Campus at James River High School. The worship styles vary from traditional services to the Gathering, a more casual, contemporary service. The church also hosts Hispanic and Korean worship services.
The Gathering service (9:30 am at the Buford Road Campus) has become extremely popular for teens, families and others looking for more nontraditional ways to connect with the church. It offers a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere and is quick to energize everyone with its amazing band, messages from members and Travis’ message for the week. It truly feels like home the moment you walk in. This is also true for the 8:00 am and 11:00 am services at the Buford Road campus, where many of Bon Air’s members find the traditional services just as meaningful and poignant.
The NorthStar Community (6:00 pm Saturday at Buford Road and 10:30 am Sunday at Bon Air Elementary School), part of Bon Air Baptist’s multi-site focus, has been a rock for many people wanting to find new ways of dealing with the pain of living in a complicated world. It's for people seeking guidance in mending broken relationships, broken families, broken promises, and broken dreams. It has helped many people dealing with addiction on the road to recovery.
The church looks to its members to become involved in ministry based on each individual’s passions and spiritual gifts. Worship, fellowship, and leadership are open to all devoted followers of Jesus regardless of the hue of their skin or the accent of their tongue. Bon Air Baptist seeks out diversity, embraces change, and is committed to supporting missions work throughout the world.
